Started the day with sketching a few rabbits, an owl and a bird. I always had an affinity with rabbits since my childhood. As a child growing up in Texas, we had cottontails and jackrabbits as pets.
Spring plowing always resulted in grandpa bringing baby rabbits home which mom fed and nurtured until they could be released back into the wild. However many of these furry friends decided to stay around for awhile, so our dad and grandfather built nice wood rabbit hutches with screened-in sides for all of them.

The day was beautiful and sunny, but somehow I just couldn’t seem to get started. I felt totally uninspired to do anything constructive.
I made some coffee and decided to try my hand at drawing a cartoon character or something. I had fun playing around with some ideas.
Later, I finally gave up and decided to work in the garden for awhile. This is the image I came up with, but all in all I think it sums the day up pretty well.

We had a beautiful day, the sun was shining and I decided it was time to tackle my painting room. We moved some furniture around, and set up one of my floor easels, because my makeshift table easel just wasn’t cutting it.
After I finished, I worked on a small 6″x6″ canvas. Now, I always thought large canvases were intimidating, but this tiny little thing almost got the best of me. I must of stared at that little blank canvas for a good hour.
I finally got into the swing of it and covered it with some gesso, tissue paper and set it aside to dry. I decided on a swan theme and I will continue with this project tomorrow.
Afterwards I sat down and did a quick sketch of the woman below. Lately I have been revisiting some of the Arthurian tales of the Lady of the lake, and have started coming up with ideas for a painting.
“You do not know how paralyzing that staring of a blank canvas is; it says to the painter, You can’t do anything … Many painters are afraid of the blank canvas, but the blank canvas is afraid of the really passionate painter who is daring, and who has once and for all broken that spell of ‘you cannot’.”

Saturday’s around here are always busy and this one was no exception. Today was world wide “sketch crawl” day and my husband sponsored one in our area. It’s always great fun but due to still recovering from the flu, I stayed home.
Instead I cleaned off my computer work area. It really needed it! Of course, a nice clean area just begs for some kind of creative activity. Resistance is futile! I just had to sit down and do a quick sketch in my new clean area.
Above is my moleskin journal and watercolor travel set. I also used watercolor pencils as well.
My computer work space clean and ready to go!
